Congress just passed and the President signed, a $65 billion extension of unemployment benefits.
Individuals can now draw unemployment benefits for an additional year to December 2011 and a maximum of 99 weeks.
"We are expediting claim processing to quickly get this money to individuals who are out of work through no fault of their own and need help to pay for food, shelter, utilities and other necessities while they seek to rejoin the workforce" says Labor & Industry Secretary Sandi Vito. Unemployment
Also the Bush lowered income tax brackets are extended.
A new one tax break was included in the HR 4853 for 2011 only. Concerning Social Security tax, individual taxpayers will only pay 4.2% in payroll taxes, a 2% reduction from the normal 6.2% rate.
Total estimated cost of this bill are individual taxpayers will only pay 4.2% in payroll taxes, a 2% reduction from the normal 6.2% rate.
Total cost of this bill is $900 Billion! How CAN we afford it?
Problem with all this, there is no change in behavior. The following is an example of over half of US public's opinion dealing with taxes, "free" benefits and unemployment.
It's a sad case for sure when one party uses the American public as hostage to get breaks for their rich friends. Yes, if they don't get tax exemptions for the rich, never mind that they've had them ever since Bush had them voted in.
But think about it, if you don't do things their way, well, you won't get tax cuts for the middle class and no extensions for the unemployment benefits. No matter that there are 15 million workers out of work and it's close to Christmas time.
I guess they forget it's better to give than receive. It's the season of goodwill to all, but they only want goodwill to all the rich, who support them with millions of dollars in elections.
What happened to working for this country? They don't mind voting millions for nation building and a war we didn't need. You can see what they think of the poor and middle class in America. No, as long as they keep getting elected by money from rich companies and friends and we keep voting them in, it's going to be the same old same. One day the people of this country are going to wake up and revolt big time. They think they are all kings in government and we have to bow down, but maybe one day we will stand up for ourselves. says Robert Swift
One the other hand Scott Winn says “If the rich can’t make more money, they can’t employ more people,”.
How about encouraging the employers to hire, (by less costs) instead of payments to those who don't work?
